A Spanish learning method built by and for native speakers

5 min readUpdated 2026-07-01

SPANYX was created by a single idea: the best free Spanish learning site in the world should feel like the real language people actually speak, not like a textbook translated into an app.

That idea came from Tomás Cabanzo, a 16-year-old Colombian who started SPANYX to give learners everywhere access to Spanish that sounds natural in Madrid, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and everywhere in between. Every method, lesson, and tool in the platform has been reviewed and endorsed by native Spanish speakers to make sure the Spanish you learn is real.

Built from a real student's problem

Most Spanish learners know the frustration: you finish an app, you know the grammar rules, but when you talk to a real person the Spanish sounds different. Tomás Cabanzo started SPANYX at 16 to solve that. The goal was not to make another language app; it was to build the best free Spanish learning site in the world, one where the Spanish feels alive from day one.

That mission is still the filter every new feature has to pass. If it does not help someone actually speak, understand, or live in Spanish, it does not belong in SPANYX.

Reviewed by native speakers from every major region

Spanish is not one single accent or one single vocabulary. The same word can be friendly in one country and confusing in another. SPANYX works with native Spanish speakers from Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, and other regions to keep the content accurate, current, and natural.

  • Curriculum and example sentences are reviewed for natural word choice and pronunciation patterns.
  • Regional slang entries are verified by speakers from the country or region they describe.
  • Audio and conversation examples match how real people talk, not how textbooks say they talk.
  • Cultural notes explain context, not just vocabulary, so you know when a word is appropriate.

What native speaker review means for your learning

When the method you follow is shaped by native speakers, you learn the language as it is used. You avoid formal but awkward phrases. You learn the expressions people actually use in cafés, messages, work calls, and family conversations. That difference is what separates a learner who can pass a quiz from a learner who can hold a real conversation.

The SPANYX method in three ideas

  1. 1Real input first: lessons, audio, and examples use Spanish that a native speaker would recognize as normal.
  2. 2Regional reality: slang, expressions, and cultural notes come from the places where the language is spoken today.
  3. 3Feedback and practice: speaking, writing, and conversation tools are built to move you from understanding to producing.

A platform that grows with the language

Native speakers do not just review the content once. As the language changes, as new slang appears, and as learners ask for new regions, the review continues. The result is a Spanish learning method that stays closer to the real world than a fixed textbook ever could.
